Hidradenitis Suppurativa

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is also known as Verneuil’s disease, acne inversa or smoker’s boils. It is a chronic, recurrent, debilitating disease that usually presents after puberty with painful, deep-seated, inflammatory lesions in the areas of the skin under the arms, groin, peri-anal, breasts or behind the neck.

These sores tend to heal slightly and then recur with oozing of pus and scar formation. Treatment is life long and involves the use of antibiotics, isotretinoin, botulinum injections and Carbon dioxide lasers.
