What is acne ?
Acne is the most common skin disease and affects 80% of all people at some time during the life. It usually begins from age 10-13 at a time when a child is undergoing puberty and can last a lifetime. If not addressed and treated early, the subsequent scars caused by acne can have far-reaching psychosocial consequences as well as result in permanent disfigurement. Acne and pimples are the same things. Acne occurs mainly on the face, however, it can affect the scalp, arms, chest and back too.
What causes Acne?
Acne has many causes and is a disease of the oil producing glands of the skin called the pilosebaceous glands. There are four interrelated factors involved:
- Excess sebum (oil) production
- Blockage of the oil gland
- Infection with a bacteria called Propionibacterium Acnes
- Skin inflammation
What factors are causing acne to relapse?
Acne is a chronic disease and needs to be treated lifelong. People are getting more relapses because of stress, global warming, pollution as well as hormones and chemicals from all types of foods.
